Blackjack is possibly one of the most favoured games bet on in casinos. Black jack is also known as "twenty one" or "pontoon." The game is a mix of luck and ability combined with choices. The card game has adapted over a period of time. Players have specialized in certain abilities like "card counting," with which they shift the odds of the game in the players favor. The game has been around since the 1700s. References can be found in historical documents to a card game referred to as "vingt-et-un," which in French means 21, and is deemed as the precursor to black jack.
The game was at first not very popular in the states. This led to the betting houses attempting a variety of things like providing a bonus like a ten to one payout, if the black jack player got an ace of spades and a black jack. The jack could be either clubs or spades. After the game became popular, the bonus payout before long disappeared from the game.
Any hand which achieves a total of twenty one is considered a winner. The value can not go beyond 21, if it does the hand is said to be "bust." The target of any player is to defeat the dealer. If the blackjack player and the house both have the same hand value, it’s referred to as a "push," with neither the player nor the dealer coming away with a win on the hand.
